Heritage Quilters of Huntsville Quilt Show - Part 1 of 3

The Heritage Quilters of Huntsville (Alabama) had their Quilt Show a week and a half ago.  The two quilts I entered won an embarrassment of ribbon riches.  "Baltimore Rhapsody - Symphony" won "First Place" in its category, "Best of Show," then "Viewer's Choice."

I am humbled and thrilled!  It was a great show.  I have spread the quilts over three posts.  I hope you are awed and inspired!

I never won a light blue ribbon before...pretty.

Then, "Contentment" won "First Place" in its category.

Blue ribbon - First Place
Red  ribbon - Second Place
Yellow ribbon - Third Place
White ribbon - Honorable Mention

Enjoy the eye candy!

The following quilt won a "Judge's Choice" ribbon.

The following quilt won "Best Hand Quilting" as well as an "Honorable Mention" ribbon.

The following quilt won the "Presidents Award" as well as a "First Place" ribbon.

The following quilt earned a "Best Machine Quilting, Track Machine" ribbon as well as "First Place" in its category.

Wasn't this fun??  Two more posts on the show to come!

I've been doing it wrong all these years!

Yep, I've been doing it wrong all these years!  Now, THIS is a girl after my own heart.

I saw a cartoon similar to this a while back on the Internet.  I added an arm, changed her features, and thought she looked just crazy enough to be guilty of all these food assassinations.

Let's not turn her in...she is only dangerous to the food.

She will be the center block with all the food "crime scenes" arranged around her.

She will probably confess and be released with just a warning...and actually, the cops will probably "impound" the donuts!

The nine blocks will probably be sashed and I have a few ideas for an outer border...

I may publish a pattern for this...I have already had a couple of people email me about it...isn't that WEIRD?!?

Here, fishy, fishy, fishy...

SHARK!!!!!

Sometimes a girl needs a big, strong brute to get her out of a jam.
And trust me...it would take something this mean and menacing to take MY chocolate away!

At least I know to peel 'em before I eat them...most of the time...

(Don't you hate the way the little flags stick to the roof of your mouth when you forget to peel them?!?)

This is where whales come from...sharks who eat WAY too much chocolate!

One more block to go!

Burn, baby, BURN!

Every girl needs a flame thrower.  You never know when you are going to be accosted by ice cream.  Watch out for the cherries...they are VICIOUS!

Oh sure, I could just leave it out in the sun to melt.  But then there's that awkward, "milkshake" stage where I might be tempted to jump in and save it (with a straw).

Nope...better to just vaporize the ice cream in one easy step.  It's called sublimation - "going from a solid to a gas, completely skipping the liquid phase."

Hey, lookie there...I am using my chemistry degree!

This is the seventh of nine blocks...two more to go!

It's hammer time!!

It's hammer time!  Time to pound that hamburger and fries to a squishy mess...pound them back to cow and potatoes.

Today, I am killing off fast food in my sixth block of nine.

It all looks so innocent.  Maybe four food groups are "represented," sort of.

I'm really not a violent person...really more of the peaceful, tree hugger type...but I am having a blast with this project.

It's always the quiet ones you have to worry about...

I give you...the hydraulic press...

I love to watch those videos where things are squashed by a hydraulic press (I know, I am a geek).  Watermelons, teddy bears, clock radios, canned sodas, etc. mashed into oblivion by 1000's of pounds of pressure.  Then again in slow motion.

Oh yeah, baby!

I thought it would be fun to imagine what it looks like when you squash a bag of chips and the bag explodes and the chips start flying out.

Cool...watch 'em fly!

This is the fifth block of nine.  You would not believe all the junk food commercials that were on the TV as I stitched these blocks.

I've got to watch more DVDs...

Still more foods to knock off...stay tuned!

Doing a Dump...Literally!

Now the secret of the toilet is revealed...dumping donuts!

I don't know...maybe there were a dozen to begin with and now just three and a half left on the platter...wonder where the other eight and a half went?!?  Maybe the dog ate them...

Little buggers...why are they cheaper by the dozen?

Why are they so alluring?  Is it the shape?  Bagels are the same shape, yet not sticky...but unfortunately can also be eaten by the dozen, LOL!

OK...four blocks down and five to go...

Donkey kicking a habit....

You guys are so clever!  The theme is indeed diet-related.

After feeling better following therapy, meds, and some life changes, I started getting angry at all the little "comfort foods" that have been a crutch for me all my life, but especially since my parents passed away.

Losing three parents in less than a year, two abruptly, requires a little comforting.

The offending little "friends" seemed so nice and loving until denial stopped hiding all the pounds that were piling on.

My therapist suggested some art therapy around my anger and I started plotting painful ways to get rid of the nagging, conniving, delicious little devils.

Don't get mad, get even...right?

Oh, a cupcake every now and then is fine...eating them by the half or whole dozen, not so much.

Just wait until you see what I am killing off next!
