That new car smell..."All Around the Town" top is finished!

Adding the cars to "All Around the Town" is the final step to making this quilt top...and now I am there.  It was fun to finally get to choose the colors and placement.  I ended up adding a few extra ones.  And now the top is done!

I finished last night while watching "Masterpiece Theater" on PBS.  Now I will always associate this top with "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" (in addition to "American Pickers" on the History Channel).

I was lucky to have a piece large enough for the outer border in my stash.  The top is slightly under 60 x 60 (which assures I can enter it as a wall hanging rather than a bed quilt in the upcoming Sauder Village Quilt Show).

The quilt isn't as dark looking as the pictures above...the close-ups below turned out a little brighter and the colors look more true.

I think this will fun to hand quilt!  I can't wait to get it layered and basted!

I'm sure a lot of sewing was done yesterday and last night during the Super Bowl...can't wait to see everyone's blogged progress!

In stitches,
Teresa  :o)

  2. T., I enlarged the quilt on my browser so I could travel through th whole town...it's just the coolest thing!!! I love it! I wanna go to the quilt show, and fish, and take pictures of the pelicans and drive in the little cars and pet the sheep and put on the bra...well, maybe not THAT... lol -- but it's whimsical and entertaining and gorgeous! You've outdone yourself (and that's saying something! :-D). Can't wait to see it quilted! Whatever will you use for the backing?? That'll be fun, too, I bet.
    Blessings!

  23. Congrats on the finished top! I really like that border fabric -- isn't great when you have just what you need with no emergency trips to the LQS?

And you're going to hand quilt it?!? Oh, this one will be a ribbon winner for sure! I wish it was possible to display it laying down at the quilt show so people could walk around it. It was fun rotating it when I enlarged the picture!

  24. Life your town. It's so cute. Is it needle turned app. Or are the edges turned under and sewed by machine. I've always just done blocks. Your town beautiful.

  29. OMG--those little cars are so cute! My daughter always wanted a VW beetle from the moment she could say the words. Well she finally got one at the age of 29 and I'd love to make a quilt like that for her sometime.

  35. Teresa, I LOVE IT!!! Truly, you are a quilting inspiration!!! My favorite parts are the pumpkins (of course) and all of the little embellishments (clothesline, sheep, knome, etc.). I haven't been to NW Ohio much, I'm closer to Columbus - but I hope to visit those shops up near you someday. My husband and I need to repaint our barns and I'm trying to convince him to let me paint a quilt block on one of them. Have you seen the Ohio barns with quilt blocks on them? They are so beautiful. I quilted ALL day yesterday and I hope to get some pics up tomorrow, see you soon!!! ~ Stephanie

  43. OMG, that "Town" quilt is SO cute. I've had that pattern since it first came out, have had it started since I started getting the BOM's (YEARS ago) but in a drawer it sits. LOVE your little creative additions--such a special touch!

  44. Your additions to this pattern are very creative. By adding to the design, you have made the quilt your own. Love the flamingo!

  45. I love all of the personal touches you have given this pattern! I'm going to the Sauder show and I'm looking forward to seeing this stunner in person. :)

  46. Absolutely Beautiful quilt. Love the interesting, creative additions you did. I've been working on this quilt for a while now. Hand quilted the center and now working on the grassy areas. This is my first attempt at hand quilting. BTW, we're neighbors, sort of. I live in Canton, MI. Do most of my shopping in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and, of course, Canton. Also, a member of the GAAQG and visit all the quilt shops in the area. We may have crossed paths.
