Do any of you collect quilt pins? I love to find them at shows, quilt stores, stash dashes, etc. I have also been gifted some nice quilt pins and charms.
I want to do something special with them, but something that also allows space for more collecting.
And then, how to support the weight of all of them? Do I keep those pinch clips on the back? If I used a corked background I could just stick them in and store the backs somewhere else.
I also have some brass, 6-inch bell pull hardware. Maybe I could make a long slender quilted or unquilted fabric piece to fit. The heavy, bottom, second brass piece would keep the 6-inch strip from twisting and warping.
Then I poked around Pinterest for ideas.
Nancy Zieman suggested a bag.
I like the simplicity of the banners.
Doing a covered cork background in an antique mirror or picture frame is also a good idea.

A lamp shade is a clever idea...it would have to be a really sturdy lamp shade, though.

I know some people pin them on their quilt guild fabric name tags or the straps for their name tags that hang around their necks. I have tried that when I had fewer pins, but now my collection is too large for that, and it makes my name to hard to see and read.
I have trouble reading other people's names through their pins.
It is funny...most of the pin storage ideas I found involved Disney pin collecting.
Have you done something with your pins, if you collect? I would love some ideas...

I like those on the hand bag. I do not collect things like that, I know I have a couple tossed in a drawer but never do anything with them the ones I have must have been given to me - I'm actually not eve sure where they are now - you sure have a lot of them.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a lot of pins, mostly membership pins and they are on different name tags that are for each of the groups. I use to make a hanging banner type for quilters in the past - long ago it was popular to swap.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a large collection. My show pins go on a small wall hanging I made in a Ricky Tims class. My Tennessee QuiltFest pins are on a flamingo Beanie Baby because the flamingo was their theme one of the first years I went.

ReplyDeleteI have a quilt on the wall of my sewing room. I attach jewelry and collectible pins on it. I even have included some clip on earrings from the 50's on the side.
ReplyDeleteI made a small "Show Pin Quilt" by Sandi Irish for my pins. I have a yardstick in a sleeve to support the weight evenly across the quilt. I thought there was p picture on my blog, bit I'm not finding it at the moment.

I just saw someone (probably on Pinterest) using one of those Mini-Tuffets as a quilt pin holder. But you might have too many pins for that. I have the kit and think I will use it for that instead of a huge pincushion!
ReplyDeleteI made 2 chatelaines from ribbon and I have scissors at one end and a pincushion at the other end. I have a lot more pins that I haven’t done anything with. I was at a quilt show and a lady had a dress form and had lots of pins in it. It was very pretty. Hugs,

ReplyDeleteI love your diet quilt! You are so creative and I love your sense of humor. I really get you! :) I also would like to do something with my numerous pins. I have also tried the name badge and lanyard attachments but had the same problems you had. I haven't come up with anything clever to do with them either.
