Loyal, lazy quilt kitty needs a new home...

As we prepare for our move and new home, Weasley needs to do the same thing...but, sadly, not with us.

We will be caretakers of our new home and family will be there often...some of my family have very bad cat allergies, so we will not be able to have an indoor pet.  He has no front claws, so becoming an outdoor kitty is out of the question.

(Here he is, hogging the heat vent under the kitchen sink...).  We are very sad about this, but there is nothing we can do about it. Losing him will be one of the hardest things about our move.

(He is a big supporter of napping...anywhere or on anyone...)  He does not like car rides, so the 12-hour trip south would be more than he can take.

So, if anyone out there within an hour or so of Ypsilanti, Michigan would like a constant quilting companion, do I have the cat for you!

He will be nine years old on July 4th (he is a Yankee-Doodle-Dandy!).

He's only ever been around one other cat...only briefly.  We invited a kitty in (who used to come to the back door every day to say "hi" through the door...), and they did not really interact, but there was no hostility.

He follows me around all over the house and always stays up with me, even long after others have gone to bed.

He was supposed to be my daughter's kitty, but he loves me the most (ha!).  Riley named him "Weasley" after Harry Potter's best friend (because he is a ginger kitty!).

"always watching, always watching..."

No pressure...I just thought I would see if he would fit a local need (and it is always fun to see kitty pictures...).

In stitches,
Teresa   :o)

  1. a beautiful cat - I too had to give up my cats when both daughters married - both son in laws are very allergic to cats! it is hard but necessary. I hope your family will appreciate what you had to do and that a home will be found for your cat.

  2. What a handsome boy! I'm so sorry to know that you have to give him away. I have four cats (no judging - lol) and it would break my heart to lose any of them. If you can't find anyone local, drop me line and we'll squeeze the Wease-Man in here (near Chicago)!!

  3. Oh, I so wish I was closer as Weasley is the clone of my Bella - or maybe she is the clone of Weasley (she's only 6). I hope you find him a good quilty home so you can take comfort in knowing he is not left, but loved.

  4. Breaks my heart that Mr. Weasley must find a new home. I sure hope that some lucky soul will claim him and love him like you do. I could just squeeze that lovely boy. He'd look just fine here in my quilt cave but, alas, too far away.

  7. Weasley is such a character with a cute personality! I have really enjoyed the pictures you've shared of him over the years. If I lived closer I would take him in a heartbeat. I adopted my Sadie 5 years ago from a lady whose baby was allergic to cats. Sadie was 10 years old at the time but she adjusted just fine and she's now the diva of my home. I hope you can find a loving home for Weasley - he's such a sweetheart.

  8. I'm so sorry that you have to give him away. I admire your quilts very much - but whenever I visit your blog my first sight is going to Weasley. Hope you find somebody who loves him. It's a pity that I'm over 12h flight away... Hugs from Germany. Annett

  9. I was going to ask you about Weasley at Sauder Village, but obviously I was sidetracked by all the quilts. Recently, I have been busy with my mom. Let me ask my husband. I feel so bad about him (Weasley, not my husband) that I can't read this entire post. Email me.

  10. So sorry! I like my cats more than several of my relatives. My grandcats get locked up in the utility room when an allergic relative visits my son's house.

  11. He's beautiful and I know it must be breaking your heart. I'm allergic to cats myself but my sister once remarked that she hoped I would never be faced with the choice of saving her or saving my dog.

  14. He looks so sweet, but me and mum are too far away if he doesn't like car ride. I don't think any kittie likes car rides. purring that Weasley get a good new home.

  17. I too would take him in a minute if only I lived closer. You must find him a good home because he deserves the best new home ever. It's not fair that he can't be with his favorite people. I'll say a prayer that someone nearby speaks up to take him. The thought of him going to a rescue place would break my heart!

  19. My ex DIL was allergic but there was no way I was giving up Mr. Fang!! Woulda been like giving up my kid. And he withstood 13 hours in the car in a move. I'd tell the allergic family to be sure and double up on the allergy meds before coming over! Would NEVER give him up.

  21. I so wish Weasley lived in Oregon as I recently lost my cat of 25 yrs & need a cute companion like your gingerboy. He is ADORABLE! I bet he will miss you terribly, but hopefully some cat-lover will be lucky to see him in Mchigan & give him a wonderful new home. It's easy to see that Weasly would make anyone a wonderful companion & you've done a great job showing his sweetness. Good luck on your move & I hope Weasley is rehomed soon with someone you feel good about taking him in.

  24. I hope you have found a home for your beautiful cat. I cannot believe it is time for you to move already. What an undertaking, and so far away. Take care of yourself while you are in transit.

  25. Have you thought of sedating him for the trip--your vet or pet store could provide advice on that? He's family--you could keep him in a different room, away from the visiting area when the "allergic" family members visit...a 9 year old kitty in an animal shelter would be a very difficult adoption...just a thought. Best wishes in rehoming him.
