"Sewing room away from home" and a question...

Hand applique is totally portable, THANK GOD!!  I posted block #5 of "Baltimore Rhapsody" yesterday, but I just had to share this today, especially for all you busy moms/grandmas out there...

Here I am working in my most recent "sewing room away from home"...my Subaru car!  My daughter recently finished her required Level One driving course for the state of Michigan.  It lasted several weeks with 2 evening sessions a week.  To keep from spending all my time driving to and fro, I decided to just camp out, in the car, and get some work done (about the time I would arrive at home, it would be time to go back and get her...sigh).

I have my little thread/snip-it container on the dash, NPR playing on the radio, a diet Coke in the cup holder, a light hanging around my neck, and a little battery fan in case it gets a little stuffy in there.  Everything but a potty (should buy a smaller pop...).  I think I need to install a trailer hitch and pull around a little 5th wheel, set up as a sewing room.

I do get a few stares from other parents, but that doesn't stop me.  One evening, a policeman stopped and walked over to talk to me.  Maybe he got a tip from the Department of Homeland Security that a strange woman in a little gray car was casing the AAA office.  He was friendly enough, but he did ask my name...isn't that weird?  Maybe I'm now on a terrorist watch list somewhere..."dangerous mom with a needle"...

Weasley says "hi!"

I'm having a problem with Blogger...maybe some of you are having the same problem and may even know how to fix it?!?  When I try and leave a comment on some blogs I follow/visit, I'm not signed in and I am asked to "select a profile."  I do that, but I never get a window to put my user name and password, so I can't leave a comment.  I have been able to leave comments on these sites before.  If I have time to try and find an email address on the blog in question, I leave a comment that way, but sometimes the link to an email address isn't obvious.

I have not commented in a while on Madamme Samm's "Sew We Quilt!" site, and others, and I can't find a link to her email ANYWHERE!  Help!

Have you experienced this??  Please let me know if you have a fix!  I am not comfortable as a lurker, and I have not had as many commenters or new followers lately on my blog and I'm worried that some people are having the same trouble here.  My page count is growing...FAST...so people are seeing my page.  I am so close to having 500 followers, but the number has not budged!

Enjoy sewing this weekend...if you see me somewhere, stitching in my car, come say hello (and don't alert law enforcement...I am harmless)!

In stitches,
Teresa  :o)

  1. I sew in the car too :0) And the playground, and the beach, and at the kids' schools... anywhere there might be some time. I love to have such a portable hobby! Your computer pictures perfectly express how I feel about them at times. Sorry I'm no help.

  2. I can't help you there - I am still trying to figure out some of the things with the new phase - which I waited for them to force me into (so they worked most of the bugs out of).

  3. Love your traveling sewing room! I like to take hand work with me anywhere I go, but am amazed at the people who seem to think it is odd! Why not be doing something with your hands if you are just sitting there?! Funny that the cops were even checking you out!

Hope you are able to solve the blogger problem. It sure does funny things sometimes.

  7. I too am guilty of sewing in the car/truck! I have to beat those soccar moms to the drop off and pick up spot at school, so I get there 45 minutes early and sew. The looks we get are pretty funny, aren't they? I had the school principal ask if I would like to knit a project for her. I had to decline, but got waves and smiles from her from then on! Keep up the good work!

  8. Aren't these Subarus the most versatile car? I have literally camped in mine with two wienie dogs. The best home away from home. :)

  9. I have the same problem on a lot of blogs and usually just get fed up and don't leave a comment; blogland is strange and getting stranger every week it seems. I usually work in the car and my dear hubby drives...haven't been pulled over as yet, tho' (LOL). Julierose

  10. I've had the "comment" problem, too, and it varies from blog to blog. After I type the two words to prove I'm not a robot, I've had what looks like a blank window open for me to log in. The last time that happened, because I was determined to leave a comment, I "decided" to scroll down and across in the window (it was small, about 3" wide and 4" long, and no way to make it bigger, but it did have the scroll around arrows) and found the login and password prompts. Could this be what's happening to you?

  12. I like that....dangerous Mum with needle! I too take my hand sewing when I know I will have some waiting around to do. I have even taken my sewing in to my hubby's gig's, people stop & ask what I am doing, some are interested, some look at you like you are a complete nut job!

  13. I thought Blogger had fixed that glitch as I haven't run into it lately. When I ran into it before I had to sign out of my account (in other words you can't stay signed in) to be able to make it work. Now I always look below the comment box to see if my name is there as a recognized Google user before I start to leave the comment. If it says Select Profile I just leave.

  14. I don't blog so know nothing about that end of stuff. Do write comments from time to time but if it takes more than two tries I quit. I do not follow folks as I use Google Reader to follow "my" blogs. No need to link this computer up to any more possible invasion of viruses, etc.

  18. I've run into the same comment problem, but not on your blog. Go figure. I sew in my car all the time. I need one of those portable fans, although it might get too cold very soon.

  22. I'm a "take it along" gal too, but I've never aroused police suspicion before! I used to be the bus driver for the boys wrestling team and I always took my quilting along to the wrestling tourneys. Some of them were 12 hours long! I could get a lot done just sewing when none of our boys were on the mat. I got some strange looks too, but some people would come over and check out what I was working on. That was fun. Love the block you're working on in the car!

  24. Hmm, I have been very busy lately and somehow missed this post earlier. Hope things are working OK now. I sew in the car whenever we are on a long trip and DH is driving. Sure helps time go by quickly.
