Fruit mash-ups...

When I apply glue stick to applique pieces or glue baste pieces to the backgrounds prior to stitching, I refer to these steps as "mash-ups" (like "mock-ups").  I picked this term because I do a lot of mashing and squeezing between my fingers and against the table or light box to be sure that I get good adhesion from either the glue stick or the little bottle of Roxanne's glue baste.

I am mashing up three different blocks of my "Baltimore Rhapsody" quilt project at one time, trying to save myself a little time by doing "like things" together.  It does make it seem a little like an assembly line, but I am so eager to get this initial quilt of 16 blocks TOGETHER...in this century.

The strawberries will be in the viola block and the grapes in the harp block.

I wonder what is going between the columns in this block...behind block #1?!?  (I used to LOVE to watch "The Dating Game" when sick and home from school...)

Don't you LOVE the fabrics I found in my stash for the portico?  They are from the line "Stonehenge."  I bought a fat quarter bundle of about 8 of the colorways at the 2012 Sauder Village Quilt Show last May, fully anticipating participating in their 2013 show challenge.  Yeah, right...

When will I ever learn that I probably won't do the challenge?!?  I do well just to get a quilt/quilts finished for that show.  I am happy to have the fabric now, though.  I hope I can find some more of this particular line - I think there is now a "Stonehenge II."

What do you do if you can't make up your mind which green fabric to make container trees from?  Why, use ALL of them, of course, silly!

When I make myself sit for more than 10 minutes at a time, I will get things stitched so that I can show you completed blocks!   There are three Christmas trees, still decorated (attracting witches), and a box of Christmas cards with addresses already written on the envelopes, but I am persevering with the mashing and prepping because I am itching for some stitching...

Have you taken your tree down?  Oh, lie to me and make me feel less guilty...

In stitches,
Teresa  :o)

It's amazing how small the quilt world really is. Now I feel connected to your blog and maybe some of your applique talent will rub off on me. lol! I am addicted to following the progress on Baltimore Rhapsody. Thanks for a great blog.

  7. Haha! I don't need to lie - we've put away the ornaments, garlands, and lights, but the tree itself is still standing right over there. . .

  8. Were your ears burning last night? Vicki and I were talking about you.... :-) Love the columns and the multi-green trees - the trees remind me of your fun yo-yo tree ornaments. Really looking forward to seeing the 16 blocks together!

  9. I just love your grapes! You've used such a great variety of fabrics. I just made a batch of grapes too - I had to go out and buy some purples - none in the stash.

  10. Teresa, no lie, my tree is still up and the lights still go on in the evening. I always wait until Epiphany to take it down but I am running a little late this year. No worries. It WILL get taken care of. But first I have some stitching to do. BTW I love your container tree. It is beautiful. And the columns, and the grapes, and....

  11. Hi Teresa
I always enjoy reading your blog. I am following the progress on Baltimore Rhapsody quilt blocks too and I look forward to seeing each one develop.
I am in awe of your work.
We took our tree down January 2nd. My DH helped to take it down and put away the boxes and tree for next year.

  16. Hi Teresa,

I really enjoy following your blog and seeing your work. You are so creative and talented! You might remember that I too am a fabraholic so I have to laugh when you post comments about your organized stash. I still have a basement full of fabrics with a purpose in mind. Lately I have been making blankets for the grandkids, of course with new fabrics I purchased :-) Can't stop buying new fabrics even though I already have drawers of fabric downstairs. My husband doesn't understand this of course, but is good natured about it.

  17. My little 4 ft tree is still up and I turn the lights on every night!!!! I love the mixed colored lights, it's sooo cute! My reasoning is...I put it up late so I'm getting my monies worth, and besides, I'm NOT looking forward in hauling all the stuff BACK UP the stairs...ugh!

I just CAN NOT wait to see all the grapes in place! I think your little strawberries are just adorable!!

  21. I have recently discovered your blog and spent some time looking back at your Baltimore Rhapsody quilt journey. I am very impressed. I love that you are taking your love of music and quilting and putting them together. I also am enjoying reading about the different instruments and music history. I look forward to spending more time exploring your creations. Great job!

  22. For many years, my MIL just covered her tree with a garbage bag ( ornaments and all) and put it in the front room. When the next year rolled around, she was well prepared.

  23. My husband won't have the tree up after new years, if I don't take it down, he will! I did get my cards out this year, although I usually try to handmake some of them and that certainly didn't happen. I loved the dating game too!
